Nuvo vs Withings: Daily Biological Age or Scale Vascular Age?
Pick Withings for a connected scale and Vascular Age from pulse wave velocity. Pick Nuvo for a daily 21-biomarker bio age on iPhone, $24.99/yr.
Written by the Nuvo Longevity editorial team at Firefly Labs LLC.
Choose Withings if you want connected hardware and the Withings app (still described as Health Mate on the App Store listing): a smart scale that estimates Vascular Age from pulse wave velocity, plus optional watches that add ECG, sleep, and overnight HRV in the same account. Choose Nuvo if you want a daily biological age on the iPhone and Apple Watch you already own, from 21 biomarkers, with optional lab PDFs, on-device AI, no account, and $24.99/year after a 7-day trial. These are adjacent jobs. Withings is a scale, watch, and dashboard company. Nuvo is a daily on-device biological-age coach. A Withings Vascular Age and a Nuvo score are not the same number, and you can keep both.
Written by the Nuvo Longevity editorial team at Firefly Labs LLC, the developer of Nuvo. Withings details below are taken from Withings’ public US product pages for Body Comp, Body Scan, BodyScan 2, and ScanWatch 2, the Vascular Age page, Body Comp and BodyScan 2 support articles, the Withings+ FAQ (updated 14 October 2025), the US privacy policy PDF dated 5 January 2026, the 15 July 2026 BodyScan 2 US press release, and the App Store listing for the Withings app (id 542701020), checked 30 September 2026. Where those pages disagree on a Withings+ yearly total, we quote the page and do not invent a single checkout price. This page is educational and is not medical advice.
What each product actually sells
Withings: Health Mate, scales, watches, and Vascular Age
Withings’ Vascular Age page (checked 30 September 2026) calls Vascular Age an at-home read on artery health. Withings says it calculates “your biological age by assessing the age of your arteries” from pulse wave velocity, the speed of the pressure wave in the arterial tree. The same page says the measurement is available on Body Comp and Body Scan, and that Body Scan measures “over 40 essential biomarkers,” including Vascular Age. It also prints a marketing claim we are not treating as a trial: “47% of our users improved their body’s true age within one month.”
The mechanism is a weigh-in, not a morning phone score. Withings’ Body Comp Vascular Age article says Body Comp times the gap between blood leaving the heart and the pressure wave arriving at the feet, then runs an algorithm, developed with cardiologists, that compares that pulse wave velocity with other Withings users of the same chronological age. The result is a range labeled optimal, normal, or not optimal. The first result appears only after five successful measurements. Withings is explicit that Vascular Age is a relative indicator against Withings users, that it cannot predict absolute cardiovascular risk, and that it is a wellness indicator. The same article says the raw Pulse Wave Velocity figure is only available in Europe. A US shopper can still be sold Vascular Age; they should not assume the meters-per-second PWV number is on the US screen.
Hardware around that metric, at the US prices printed on 30 September 2026:
- Body Comp White: order total $229.95. Bullets on that page include fat, muscle, and bone mass, standing heart rate, vascular age, and an electrodermal activity score. The collection FAQ says Body Comp skips the handle, segmental analysis, and ECG that Body Scan has. The same FAQ says you do not need a subscription for baseline metrics and trends in the Withings app.
- Body Scan Black: order total $499.95. The page leads with segmental body composition, a 6-lead ECG, an electrodermal activity score, and “6-lead ECG & Vascular Age.” It says a measurement takes about 90 seconds and cites “40+ clinically validated biomarkers,” plus a “99% DEXA correlation” claim for body composition. Up to 8 users. The FAQ again says baseline metrics stay free and that Withings+ is optional.
- BodyScan 2 Black: order total $599.95. Withings calls it a longevity station. The page lists Vascular Age with pulse wave velocity, and it adds Heart Age and Glucose Resilience, both marked as Withings+ only. A 15 July 2026 US press release announces the same $599.95 price and says BodyScan 2 tracks over 60 biomarkers. That “over 60” line is the press release, not the Body Scan page’s “40+.” We are not going to average them.
- ScanWatch 2 42mm Black: order total $369.95. This is a hybrid watch, not the Vascular Age scale. The page lists 24/7 temperature tracking, a single-lead ECG, sleep tracking, overnight HRV, on-demand SpO2, and activity tracking, with up to 35 days of battery life. The Withings ECG app on that page is described as FDA-cleared (510(k) K240795) to detect atrial fibrillation. The page does not list Vascular Age. A watch does not replace the scale measurement.
All four product pages say the companion is the Withings app on iOS and Android, compatible with Apple Health, Google Health Connect, and Google Fit, with a web dashboard, and that setup cannot be done from a computer. The App Store listing (id 542701020) still describes that companion as Health Mate. Withings’ Apple Health support article documents an in-app control, “Export health data to Apple Health.” Export is a HealthKit bridge for metrics Apple Health can store. It is not a pipe that turns Vascular Age into someone else’s biological-age model.
Withings+ is the optional subscription. On the BodyScan 2 page the selector reads Yearly $99.50/yr and Monthly $9.95/mo, with one free month, and a footnote that the annual charge after the trial is $99.50. The Withings+ FAQ (updated 14 October 2025) instead says that after a bundled trial the price is $9.95/month or $99.95/year. Those yearly figures do not match. Confirm the total in checkout.
Nuvo: a daily 21-biomarker score
Nuvo Longevity (App Store: Nuvo: Longevity Coach, id 6762535065) is an iPhone and Apple Watch app. It calculates a daily biological age from 21 biomarkers: Apple Health / HealthKit data from Apple Watch, Oura, or Garmin, plus optional user-entered or PDF blood labs so conventional results you already paid for (HbA1c, fasting glucose, HDL, CRP, creatinine, and more) sit in the same score.
Coaching runs as on-device private AI (Nuvo Intelligence). There is no account. Apple’s privacy nutrition label for Nuvo is Data Not Collected. Health data stays on the phone. Price is $4.99/month or $24.99/year after a 7-day trial — $24.99/year is $2.08/month billed annually. Nuvo is not Android, does not sell a scale or a watch, and does not compute Withings Vascular Age, Heart Age, or pulse wave velocity.
Nuvo is not Health Mate, Body Scan, or ScanWatch. If the job is “stand on a scale and read arterial stiffness as an age, or wear a Withings watch for ECG and sleep,” that is Withings. If the job is “one daily biological age from 21 biomarkers, including optional labs, privately, on the phone you already carry,” that is Nuvo. Download app. For the wider field, see our 2026 biological age app comparison. For a sleep ring that also lands in Apple Health, see Nuvo vs Oura. What an age number means next to a birthday is covered in biological age vs chronological age.
Comparison table
| Withings (Health Mate / scales / watches) | Nuvo Longevity | |
|---|---|---|
| Job | Connected scale and watch hardware plus a Withings account dashboard. Vascular Age is an artery-stiffness age from a weigh-in. Heart Age, on BodyScan 2, is a separate Withings+ metric. | Daily biological-age coach on iPhone and Apple Watch. One score from 21 biomarkers. No scale and no watch sold by Nuvo. |
| Cadence | Vascular Age updates when you complete a valid weigh-in. The first result needs five successful measurements. Watches such as ScanWatch 2 track heart rate, sleep, overnight HRV, and on-demand SpO2 between weigh-ins. That watch stream is not Vascular Age. | One daily biological age from 21 biomarkers. Recalculated daily so sleep, HRV, training, and optional labs can sit in one number. |
| Data sources | Pulse wave velocity on Body Comp, Body Scan, and BodyScan 2, interpreted against other Withings users. Body composition by bioimpedance. Body Scan adds segmental composition and a 6-lead ECG. ScanWatch 2 adds wrist ECG, SpO2, temperature, sleep, and overnight HRV. Optional labs are not the Vascular Age input. | HealthKit from Apple Watch, Oura, or Garmin, plus optional conventional lab PDF or user-entered labs in the same 21-biomarker score. Does not run Withings’ pulse-wave algorithm. |
| Privacy | Withings account required. The US privacy policy (5 January 2026) says account creation collects name, age, and email, and that health data from the products is kept until you delete the account. Withings+ can send pseudonymized profile and health data to artificial-intelligence providers. The California addendum says Withings does not sell personal information. | No account. On-device private AI (Nuvo Intelligence). Apple privacy label: Data Not Collected. Data stays on the phone and is not sold. See on-device AI and privacy. |
| Price model | Hardware first. US order totals on 30 September 2026: Body Comp $229.95, Body Scan $499.95, BodyScan 2 $599.95, ScanWatch 2 42mm $369.95. Withings+ is optional for deeper coaching. The BodyScan 2 page prints $9.95/month or $99.50/year after a free month. The October 2025 FAQ prints $9.95/month or $99.95/year. We do not pick a yearly winner those pages do not share. HSA/FSA eligible badges appear on these product pages. | $4.99/month or $24.99/year after a 7-day trial. No scale is bundled. $24.99/year is $2.08/month billed annually. You still need an iPhone; an Apple Watch is the usual wearable source. |
| Who it’s for | People who want a bathroom scale that reports body composition and an artery-age estimate, and who will keep a Withings account. Add a ScanWatch if the job is wrist ECG, sleep, and overnight HRV. | People who want one daily 21-biomarker biological age on the iPhone they already own, optional labs they already paid for, no account, at $24.99/year. |
| Ratings | Withings publishes product-page review modules on the hardware. We do not treat those as an App Store corpus, and we do not invent an App Store rating count for Health Mate. | Honestly thin: 5.0 from 4 ratings (iTunes lookup, 15 September 2026). Do not treat that as a large review corpus. |
What the science actually measures
Pulse wave velocity is a stiffness measurement. Carotid-femoral PWV, taken with tonometry in a clinic, is the reference method the research literature uses. Vascular Age is an interpretation of a related, at-home signal: Withings compares your scale PWV with other Withings users and prints an age-like range. That is not a DNA methylation clock, not an IgG glycan index, and not a wearable-plus-lab composite that updates every day. Withings’ own Vascular Age article points at that literature:
- Reference Values for Arterial Stiffness’ Collaboration. Determinants of pulse wave velocity in healthy people and in the presence of cardiovascular risk factors. Eur Heart J. 2010;31(19):2338–2350 — normal and reference PWV values from a large clinical collaboration. This paper does not evaluate a bathroom scale.
- Laurent S, Boutouyrie P, Cunha PG, Lacolley P, Nilsson PM. Concept of extremes in vascular aging. Hypertension. 2019;74(2):218–228 — early and supernormal vascular aging as a clinical idea, which is the framing Withings uses when it says a higher vascular age may mean higher later vascular risk.
- Bruno RM, Nilsson PM, Engström G, et al. Early and supernormal vascular aging. Hypertension. 2020;76(5):1616–1624 — the same research group, on how those extremes relate to later cardiovascular events in cohort data.
- Collier SR, McCraw C, Campany M, et al. Withings Body Cardio versus gold standards of pulse-wave velocity and body composition. J Pers Med. 2020;10(1):17 — an independent study of the earlier Body Cardio scale, not Body Scan or BodyScan 2. In 20 young adults, Body Cardio overestimated PWV by 0.68 m/s versus SphygmoCor (MAPE 9.7%). The authors called body mass and PWV acceptable and said fat mass and fat-free mass should be used cautiously.
Withings’ support article also describes its own comparison of Body Cardio with a sphygmometer in 86 people, run with Prof. Pierre Boutouyrie in Paris. That is Withings’ account of a validation study on the older scale. Citing it, or citing the 2010 reference-value paper, does not make a 2026 BodyScan 2 Vascular Age identical to carotid-femoral PWV, and it does not make that age identical to Nuvo’s daily score. A Withings Vascular Age of 41 and a Nuvo daily score of 41 are different objects. Heart Age is a third object: the BodyScan 2 Heart Age article says it comes from impedance cardiography (how quickly the heart responds, and how long it spends pumping), that it is exclusive to BodyScan 2, and that the product page gates it behind Withings+. The support note attributes the timing method to Weissler and colleagues in Circulation (1972) and to European Society of Cardiology guidance. That is cardiac pump timing, not pulse wave velocity, and not a 21-biomarker phone score.
Can they stack?
Yes, as complementary layers. Withings is the scale (body composition, Vascular Age, and on Body Scan a 6-lead ECG) and, if you buy one, the watch (sleep, overnight HRV, wrist ECG, SpO2). Nuvo is the daily 21-biomarker trend on HealthKit plus optional conventional labs. Nuvo does not ingest Withings Vascular Age, Heart Age, Glucose Resilience, or a named Withings input.
The practical bridge is Apple Health. Body Comp, Body Scan, BodyScan 2, and ScanWatch 2 product pages say the Withings app is Apple Health compatible, and Withings documents an export control. Metrics that actually land in HealthKit — weight is the obvious scale example — can sit among the signals Nuvo already reads. Vascular Age itself is a Withings dashboard figure. Keep it there. If you also have a standard lab PDF (HbA1c, fasting glucose, HDL, CRP, creatinine, and similar), that PDF can go into Nuvo’s 21-biomarker score. It does not become a Withings artery age, and a Withings artery age does not become Nuvo’s daily clock.
Privacy
Withings is an account product. The US privacy policy dated 5 January 2026 says creating a Withings account means giving your name, age, and email so you can see the data the products generate. A later section lists Withings App account fields as email, date of birth, first and last name, an optional password, IP and MAC addresses, and height, weight, country, and state, retained until you delete the account. Health data shown in the app is retained until that deletion. The policy also says that artificial-intelligence personalization processes pseudonymized profile and physiological data, and the California section says artificial-intelligence providers receive data if you subscribe to Withings+. The same California addendum says Withings does not sell personal information for money or other valuable consideration. That is a normal cloud health account. It is not Nuvo’s design.
Nuvo requires no account and uses the Apple privacy label Data Not Collected. Coaching is on-device. Data stays on the phone. If you will not put weigh-ins and ECGs on a Withings account, do not buy the scale. If you will not put longitudinal wearable and lab data on an app account, Nuvo is the one built for that constraint. Architecture notes: health app privacy and on-device AI.
Where Withings wins
Withings wins if the job is a connected scale that estimates arterial stiffness, plus a body-composition dashboard. Body Comp at $229.95 is the smaller scale that still lists vascular age. Body Scan at $499.95 adds the handle, segmental composition, and a 6-lead ECG. BodyScan 2 at $599.95 is the newer station, with Heart Age and Glucose Resilience behind Withings+. Nuvo does not claim to beat Withings at a weigh-in PWV, a segmental DEXA-style body map, or a 6-lead ECG on a bathroom scale.
Withings also wins on the hardware ecosystem. ScanWatch 2 ($369.95 on the 42mm black page) is a hybrid watch with ECG, overnight HRV, sleep, temperature, and on-demand SpO2, on iOS or Android, in the same account as the scale. Nuvo does not sell that watch, and Nuvo is not an Android app. If you want one login for a scale and a Withings watch, Health Mate is the product. Scale is not close on reviews either. Nuvo’s App Store presence is early: 4 ratings. We are not going to inflate four ratings into social proof.
Where Nuvo wins
Nuvo wins on the daily biological-age job. Vascular Age moves when you stand on the scale and the algorithm has five good readings. Heart Age is a BodyScan 2 weigh-in behind Withings+. Nuvo recalculates a daily biological age from 21 biomarkers so sleep, HRV, training, and optional labs can sit in one number without a new device.
Nuvo wins on price if you already own an iPhone (and often an Apple Watch) and you do not need a new scale. $24.99/year versus $229.95 for Body Comp — or $499.95 for Body Scan, or $599.95 for BodyScan 2, before any Withings+ renewal — is a category difference, not a coupon. If you already bought the scale, Nuvo is the cheap daily layer, not a reason to return the hardware.
Privacy is structural. Withings is account, cloud, and (if you subscribe) artificial-intelligence providers. Nuvo is no account and Data Not Collected. Conventional labs in Nuvo are optional PDFs in the same 21-biomarker score. Those PDFs do not become Vascular Age, and Vascular Age does not become Nuvo’s daily clock.
Who wins for which user
Buy Withings if you want the scale, the artery-age estimate, and a Health Mate dashboard, with or without a ScanWatch. Buy Nuvo if you want a daily 21-biomarker biological age on iPhone and Apple Watch, privately, at $24.99/year. Buy both if you already step on a Body Comp or Body Scan and still want a daily age number from HealthKit plus any conventional lab PDF you have. They do not cancel each other. One is a weigh-in vascular age. The other is a daily age readout.
If the only job is “arterial stiffness and body composition from a connected scale,” stop at Withings. If the only job is “daily biological age from 21 biomarkers, privately, on iPhone,” stop at Nuvo. Download app.
Habits that actually move aging markers — sleep, aerobic fitness, glucose, inflammation — are covered in How to reduce biological age. This page is only about which product to buy for which job.
Pricing math without invented discounts
Withings public prices we could actually see on 30 September 2026:
- Body Comp White product page: $229.95 order total. Bullets include vascular age. The page says baseline metrics and trends stay free in the app.
- Body Scan Black product page: $499.95 order total, with Vascular Age and a 6-lead ECG.
- BodyScan 2 Black product page: $599.95 order total. The same page’s Withings+ selector: $9.95/month or $99.50/year after one free month. Heart Age and Glucose Resilience require that subscription.
- ScanWatch 2 42mm Black product page: $369.95 order total. This watch page does not sell Vascular Age.
- Withings+ FAQ, updated 14 October 2025: after a bundle trial, $9.95/month or $99.95/year. That yearly number is $0.45 higher than the $99.50 printed on the BodyScan 2 page. We do not invent a blended yearly price.
Nuvo: $4.99/month or $24.99/year ($2.08/month billed annually) after a 7-day trial. No scale and no watch is bundled.
Those dollars buy different things. Say so. Many high-intent shoppers already own a Withings scale or are about to buy one for body composition. The remaining question is whether they also want a daily 21-biomarker biological age. That is the Nuvo add, not a rip-and-replace.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I pick Nuvo or Withings?
Pick Withings if you want a connected scale and the Withings app (Health Mate): Vascular Age from pulse wave velocity on Body Comp ($229.95), Body Scan ($499.95), or BodyScan 2 ($599.95), as those US pages read on 30 September 2026, plus optional ScanWatch 2 ($369.95) for wrist ECG, sleep, and overnight HRV. You will need a Withings account. Withings+ is optional for extra coaching; yearly price pages disagree ($99.50 vs $99.95), so confirm checkout. Pick Nuvo if you want a daily biological age from 21 biomarkers on iPhone and Apple Watch, optional conventional lab PDF in that same score, on-device AI, no account, and $24.99/year after a 7-day trial. If you already own the scale, you can stack: Withings for the weigh-in artery age, Nuvo for the daily 21-biomarker trend.
Is Withings Vascular Age the same as a biological age?
Withings’ Vascular Age page uses biological-age language for an artery measurement. The support article is more specific: Vascular Age compares your pulse wave velocity with other Withings users of the same chronological age, shown as optimal, normal, or not optimal, and it is a wellness indicator rather than a diagnosis or an absolute risk score. The first result needs five successful weigh-ins. That is a different measurement from Nuvo’s daily 21-biomarker score, which mixes HealthKit wearables with optional labs such as HbA1c, fasting glucose, HDL, CRP, and creatinine. A matching number on the two products is a coincidence of labels.
Does Withings Vascular Age use my Apple Watch?
No. Vascular Age is a scale measurement on Body Comp, Body Scan, and BodyScan 2. ScanWatch 2 tracks ECG, sleep, overnight HRV, temperature, and SpO2, and it syncs to the Withings app, which can export compatible data to Apple Health. The ScanWatch 2 product page does not list Vascular Age. Nuvo’s daily biological age does use HealthKit from Apple Watch, Oura, or Garmin, plus optional labs, as one 21-biomarker score. It does not read the Withings artery-age field.
What is the difference between Vascular Age and Heart Age?
Vascular Age is the pulse-wave metric on Body Comp, Body Scan, and BodyScan 2, compared with other Withings users. Heart Age is a BodyScan 2 feature. Withings’ support article says Heart Age comes from impedance cardiography (response time and pump time) and is exclusive to BodyScan 2. The BodyScan 2 product page says Heart Age and Glucose Resilience require Withings+. Neither one is Nuvo’s daily 21-biomarker biological age.
How much do Withings and Nuvo cost?
On 30 September 2026 the US order totals were Body Comp $229.95, Body Scan $499.95, BodyScan 2 $599.95, and ScanWatch 2 42mm $369.95. Withings+ on the BodyScan 2 page was $9.95/month or $99.50/year after a free month. The Withings+ FAQ updated 14 October 2025 prints $9.95/month or $99.95/year. We do not invent a single yearly total. Baseline scale metrics, including the Vascular Age bullet on the Body Comp page, are described as free in the app. Nuvo is $4.99/month or $24.99/year ($2.08/month billed annually) after a 7-day trial, with no hardware required beyond the iPhone you use to run it.
Can Nuvo use my Withings results?
Not as Vascular Age, Heart Age, or a named Withings score. The Withings app can export health data to Apple Health, and Nuvo reads HealthKit types it already uses, plus optional conventional lab PDFs. Keep the artery age in Health Mate. If weight or other supported metrics land in Apple Health, they can inform Nuvo only as ordinary HealthKit inputs. You do not have to pick only one product.
Does Nuvo require an account?
No. Nuvo uses on-device private AI and no account. Apple’s privacy label is Data Not Collected; data stays on the phone. Withings requires an account to see scale and watch data. The 5 January 2026 US privacy policy says that account holds your name, email, and the health data the devices produce until you delete it. Nuvo uses 21 longevity biomarkers (HealthKit plus optional labs). Withings’ “40+” biomarkers on the Body Scan page, and the press release’s “over 60” for BodyScan 2, are hardware measurement lists, not Nuvo’s score.
Is this medical advice?
No. This comparison is educational and is not medical advice. Withings says Vascular Age is a wellness indicator and should not be used to diagnose, treat, or predict absolute cardiovascular risk, and that it is unlikely to be reliable if you have a heart rhythm disorder. Body Scan’s ECG and ScanWatch’s ECG have their own regulatory claims and limits; they do not turn either product into a substitute for a clinician. Lab results, ECGs, and wearable scores should be reviewed with a qualified professional.
