Nuvo vs Garmin: daily biological-age iPhone app compared with a Fitness Age GPS watch and Garmin Connect

Choose Garmin if you want a GPS sports watch plus Garmin Connect: Fitness Age, Body Battery, Training Readiness, training plans, and maps. Choose Nuvo if you want a daily biological age on iPhone and Apple Watch from 21 biomarkers — HealthKit wearables plus optional lab PDF — with on-device AI, no account, and $24.99/year after a 7-day trial. They are different jobs. Many people who already own a Garmin still want that daily 21-biomarker number. On iPhone, Garmin Connect can write a defined set of health data to Apple Health, and Nuvo can read HealthKit. That stack is honest. Garmin’s Fitness Age is not Nuvo’s daily biological age.

Written by the Nuvo Longevity editorial team at Firefly Labs LLC, the developer of Nuvo. Garmin details below are taken from Garmin’s public Fitness Age blog (22 April 2025), fēnix and vívoactive owner’s manuals, the Forerunner 970 Training Readiness manual, the Garmin Connect Apple Health support article, the Index S2 product page, and Garmin newsroom suggested-retail announcements, plus a US iTunes lookup of Garmin Connect (id 583446403) and Nuvo (id 6762535065), checked 24 September 2026. Suggested retail figures are the numbers those newsroom pages still print; we did not invent a live cart or sale price. This page is educational and is not medical advice.

What each product actually sells

Garmin: a watch, a scale, and the Connect ecosystem

Garmin sells hardware and the Garmin Connect app (Garmin International, App Store id 583446403, free to download, iPhone and Android). You pair a compatible watch — Forerunner, Venu, fēnix, and others — to a Garmin Connect account, then review activities, health stats, workouts, and courses in Connect. Connect is the dashboard. The watch is the sensor. There is no separate “Garmin biological age app.”

The scores people confuse with biological age live inside that ecosystem:

  • Fitness Age. Garmin’s 22 April 2025 Fitness Age post says Fitness Age estimates fitness compared with your actual age. On the classic method it is an interpretation of a VO2 max estimate: how your cardiorespiratory fitness compares with normal values for people of different ages and the same gender. The same post says newer watches also account for activity intensity, resting heart rate, and body fat percentage or BMI, and that body fat comes from a Garmin Index S2 smart scale. The fēnix 9 owner’s manual describes that newer method directly: age, BMI, resting heart rate, and vigorous-activity history, with body fat from an Index scale used instead of BMI when the scale is present. You view it in Garmin Connect (Health Stats → Fitness Age) or, on some watches, under the user profile. It is a fitness comparison, not a fused wearable-plus-lab clock.
  • Body Battery. The vívoactive 6 owner’s manual says the watch analyzes heart-rate variability, stress, sleep quality, and activity to estimate reserve energy on a scale from 5 to 100 (5–25 very low, 26–50 low, 51–75 medium, 76–100 high). Garmin’s Body Battery explainer ties the score to Firstbeat’s reading of beat-to-beat HRV, stress, recovery, sleep, and activity. It is an energy gauge for today. It is not an age.
  • Training Readiness. The Forerunner 970 manual and the fēnix 8 manual (the fēnix 8 page we opened is marked June 2026) calculate a daily training score from last night’s sleep score, recovery time, HRV status, acute load, sleep history over the last 3 nights, and stress history over the last 3 days. Bands run from Poor (1–24) to Prime (95–100). The fēnix 9 manual adds dive history on that model. The score answers “should you train hard today?” It does not answer “what is your biological age?”
  • Index S2. The Index S2 product page (checked 24 September 2026) is a Wi-Fi smart scale for weight, 30-day weight trend, BMI, body fat percentage, skeletal muscle mass, bone mass, and body water percentage, for up to 16 users, synced to Garmin Connect. The public HTML we fetched did not print a dollar price, so we do not invent one. Newer Fitness Age uses its body-fat reading when you have the scale. The scale is not a lab biological-age test.

Core Garmin Connect features stay free with the hardware. Garmin’s 27 March 2025 Connect+ announcement still says, on the page we checked 24 September 2026, that existing Connect features and data remain free, and that the optional Connect+ plan (Active Intelligence, a performance dashboard, extra training guidance, expanded LiveTrack, and social challenges) was offered at $6.99/month or $69.99/year after a 30-day trial. That is the published US announcement price, not a cart total we re-checked at checkout.

Suggested retail at announcement, still printed on those newsroom pages when we checked 24 September 2026 — not a claim about today’s sale price:

  • Venu 4 (announced 17 September 2025): starting at $549.99, on sale from 22 September 2025. The release lists HRV status, Body Battery, training readiness, and up to 12 days of battery in smartwatch mode.
  • Forerunner 570 and 970 (announced 15 May 2025): $549.99 and $749.99, available to order 21 May 2025. Forerunner 570’s morning training-readiness copy is sleep, recovery, and training load.
  • fēnix 8 series (announced 27 August 2024): suggested retail starts at $999.99.
  • fēnix 8 Pro (announced 3 September 2025): AMOLED starts at $1,199.99; MicroLED $1,999.99; available 8 September 2025. The release says inReach satellite and cellular connectivity needs an active subscription. It does not print that plan’s price, so we do not invent one.

US App Store scale, iTunes lookup on 24 September 2026: Garmin Connect showed about 4.4 from 58,501 ratings (raw average 4.3896). That is a large review corpus. It is also a review corpus for a free companion app, not for a biological-age subscription.

Nuvo: a daily 21-biomarker score

Nuvo Longevity (App Store: Nuvo: Longevity Coach, id 6762535065) is an iPhone and Apple Watch app. It calculates a daily biological age from 21 biomarkers: Apple Health / HealthKit data from Apple Watch, Oura, or Garmin, plus optional lab PDF upload so conventional results you already paid for (HbA1c, fasting glucose, HDL, CRP, creatinine, and more) sit in the same score.

Coaching runs as on-device private AI (Nuvo Intelligence). There is no account. Apple’s privacy nutrition label for Nuvo is Data Not Collected. Health data stays on the phone. Price is $4.99/month or $24.99/year after a 7-day trial — $24.99/year is $2.08/month billed annually. Nuvo is not Android, does not sell a GPS watch, and does not run on a Garmin wrist. Garmin owners use Nuvo on iPhone. The same iTunes lookup on 24 September 2026 showed Nuvo at 5.0 from 4 ratings. That sample is early. We do not treat four ratings as a large corpus, and we do not publish a schema.org rating object for Nuvo.

Nuvo is not Garmin’s Fitness Age, Body Battery, Training Readiness, training status, or maps. If the job is “a GPS watch and a training ecosystem,” that is Garmin. If the job is “one daily biological age from 21 biomarkers, including optional labs, privately, on the phone you already carry,” that is Nuvo. Download app. For the wider field, see our 2026 biological age app comparison. For another wearable contrast, see Nuvo vs Oura and Nuvo vs WHOOP. For another Apple Watch biological-age app, see SuperAge vs Nuvo.

Comparison table

Garmin watches + Garmin Connect Nuvo Longevity
Job to be done GPS training, navigation, and daily readiness inside a watch plus the Connect app. Fitness Age is a fitness-versus-age comparison. Body Battery and Training Readiness are today’s energy and training scores. One daily biological age from 21 biomarkers on the iPhone and Apple Watch you already own, with optional labs you already paid for.
What the “age” measures Device-dependent Fitness Age. Garmin’s April 2025 post: a VO2 max interpretation versus age-and-gender norms, and on newer watches activity intensity, resting heart rate, and body fat (Index S2) or BMI. Not a 21-biomarker score and not a lab PDF clock. A daily composite of 21 wearable and optional conventional-lab biomarkers (sleep, HRV when the source provides it, fitness, and chemistry such as HbA1c or CRP). Not Garmin’s Fitness Age.
Daily score? Body Battery and Training Readiness update through the day on compatible watches. Fitness Age is a fitness snapshot in Connect, not a morning biological age that also takes a lab PDF. Yes. Recalculated daily from 21 biomarkers so sleep, training, and optional labs can sit in one number.
Hardware You buy a Garmin watch. Optional Index S2 scale feeds body fat into newer Fitness Age. Suggested retail at announcement (newsroom pages, checked 24 Sep 2026): Venu 4 from $549.99, Forerunner 570 $549.99, Forerunner 970 $749.99, fēnix 8 from $999.99, fēnix 8 Pro AMOLED from $1,199.99. Live checkout can differ. No proprietary watch. iPhone app; Apple Watch app and complications are Apple Watch only. A Garmin feeds Nuvo through Apple Health on iPhone, not through a Nuvo watch face.
Phone / account Garmin Connect on iPhone and Android. A Garmin Connect account is required. Connect+ is an optional paid layer; core Connect features remain free per Garmin’s March 2025 announcement. iPhone only. No account. On-device AI. Apple privacy label: Data Not Collected. Android Garmin users cannot install Nuvo.
Apple Health Garmin’s Apple Health article (checked 24 Sep 2026): Connect pushes active energy, body fat percentage, BMI, flights climbed, heart rate, resting energy, sleep analysis, steps, walking and running distance, water, weight, and workouts. It does not pull Apple Watch data back in. GPS tracks are not written. Activity rings do not move from Garmin data. The published list does not include Fitness Age, Body Battery, Training Readiness, HRV status, or VO2 max. Reads HealthKit. Nuvo’s FAQ documents the Garmin gap: resting heart rate is estimated because Connect does not publish it as its own Apple Health value, HRV stays hidden until real HRV arrives, and VO2 max is entered manually from the number Garmin already shows.
Price ballpark The watch is the cost (announced suggested retail above). Connect app download is free. Optional Connect+ was announced at $6.99/month or $69.99/year after 30 days (27 March 2025 US release). Index S2 price omitted — the product page we fetched did not print one. $4.99/month or $24.99/year ($2.08/month billed annually) after a 7-day trial. No watch and no lab draw is bundled.
Best for People who want GPS training, maps, Body Battery, Training Readiness, and a Fitness Age on the wrist, on iPhone or Android. People who want one daily 21-biomarker biological age on iPhone, optional labs, no account, including Garmin owners who already have the watch.
App Store ratings Garmin Connect: about 4.4 from 58,501 US ratings (iTunes lookup, 24 September 2026). Companion-app ratings, not a biological-age corpus. Honestly thin: 5.0 from 4 US ratings (same lookup). Do not treat that as a large review corpus.

What each “age” actually measures

Garmin Fitness Age is a cardiorespiratory and activity comparison. The April 2025 Garmin post is explicit that the classic number interprets VO2 max against age norms, and that newer watches fold in vigorous activity, resting heart rate, and body fat or BMI. Owner’s manuals match the newer formula and tell you to finish the user profile so the number is usable. None of those pages describe a 21-biomarker model, a lab PDF, HbA1c, CRP, or an epigenetic clock. Calling Fitness Age a biological age is a category error. It is a useful fitness age. It is not Nuvo’s daily clock.

Body Battery and Training Readiness are even further from that job. One is reserve energy from HRV, stress, sleep, and activity (5–100). The other is a training decision from sleep, recovery, HRV status, acute load, and recent stress. They can change the way you train tomorrow. They do not replace a score that also absorbs a blood panel.

Nuvo’s 21 biomarkers are wearable streams plus optional conventional labs, recalculated daily on the phone. When the wearable is a Garmin, Nuvo only sees what actually lands in Apple Health, plus anything you type (such as the VO2 max Garmin already displays) and any lab PDF you add. Nuvo does not import Fitness Age, Body Battery, or Training Readiness as named inputs. A day of hard training can move both products. They are not printing the same number.

Can they stack?

Yes, on iPhone — and only as far as Apple Health actually carries the data. Garmin’s support article says Connect pushes to Apple Health and does not pull Apple Watch or Apple Health data back. After you enable Connect → Apple Health, the categories on that page are active energy, body fat percentage, BMI, flights climbed, heart rate (all-day heart rate; timed activities send high and low only), resting energy, sleep analysis, steps, walking and running distance, water, weight, and workouts. GPS tracks stay in Garmin. Apple’s move and exercise rings do not fill from a Garmin. Connect has to be open in the foreground for the transfer to finish.

Nuvo then reads HealthKit. That is the complementary path: keep the Garmin for training, maps, Fitness Age, Body Battery, and Training Readiness; let Nuvo turn the HealthKit streams Garmin does write, plus an optional lab PDF, into a daily 21-biomarker biological age. Nuvo’s own FAQ is blunt about the holes. Connect does not publish resting heart rate as its own Apple Health value, so Nuvo estimates it from overnight heart rate. Garmin does not share HRV through Apple Health, so the HRV tile stays hidden instead of showing a zero. VO2 max is typed in from the Garmin screen about once a month unless you use a source that does share it. There is no Nuvo app on the Garmin watch.

If you only want the watch, stop at Garmin. If you only want the daily biological age and you already have an iPhone, Nuvo does not require you to buy a Garmin. If you already paid for the Garmin and you still want a daily age that can include labs, stack them. An Android phone running Garmin Connect cannot run Nuvo.

Privacy

Garmin Connect is an account product. Activities and health stats sync to your Garmin account so the watch, the phone, and Garmin Connect stay in one place. Connect+ adds an AI insights layer on top of that account; Garmin’s announcement describes it as personalized insights from your health and activity data. That is a normal design for a multi-device sports platform. It is not Nuvo’s design.

Nuvo requires no account and uses the Apple privacy label Data Not Collected. Coaching is on-device. Data stays on the phone and is not sold. If you will not put longitudinal training history in a Garmin account, do not buy the ecosystem. If you will not put wearable and lab data on an app account, Nuvo is the score built for that constraint. Architecture notes: health app privacy and on-device AI.

Where Garmin wins

Garmin wins if the job is the watch. Multi-band GPS, maps, structured workouts, Training Readiness, Body Battery, and a Fitness Age on the wrist are the product. Battery life on the models above is measured in days, not a nightly charge. Connect runs on Android as well as iPhone. Nuvo does not claim to beat Garmin at navigation, race prediction, dive features, or a 58,501-rating companion app. If you came to buy a training watch, buy the Garmin.

Garmin also wins if you want those readiness scores without opening a second app. Body Battery and Training Readiness are native. Nuvo will not recreate them from a partial Apple Health export and pretend they are the same widgets.

Where Nuvo wins

Nuvo wins on the daily biological-age job. Fitness Age updates as a VO2 max or activity comparison. It does not ingest a lab PDF. Nuvo recalculates a daily biological age from 21 biomarkers so sleep, training, and optional labs can sit in one number.

Nuvo wins on price if you already own an iPhone and the question is the score, not the watch. $24.99/year versus a $549.99–$1,999.99 suggested-retail watch is not a like-for-like discount. It is a category difference. People who already own the watch are not choosing instead of Garmin. They are deciding whether to add a private daily age.

Privacy is structural. Garmin is an account and a cloud sync. Nuvo is no account and Data Not Collected. The Apple Health bridge is one-way and incomplete; say so, then use it for what it does carry.

Who wins for which user

Buy Garmin if you want a GPS watch, Connect, Fitness Age, Body Battery, and Training Readiness, on iPhone or Android. Buy Nuvo if you want a daily 21-biomarker biological age on iPhone, privately, at $24.99/year, with or without a watch you already own. Buy both if you already wear a Garmin, you have an iPhone, and you still want a daily age that can include a lab PDF. Enable Connect’s Apple Health export. Let Nuvo read HealthKit. Keep Fitness Age in Garmin.

If the only job is “train and navigate from the wrist,” stop at Garmin. If the only job is “daily biological age from 21 biomarkers, privately, on iPhone,” stop at Nuvo. Download app.

Habits that actually move aging markers — sleep, aerobic fitness, glucose, inflammation — are covered in How to reduce biological age. This page is only about which product to buy for which job. For a sleep ring rather than a GPS watch, see Nuvo vs Oura. For a strain-and-recovery strap, see Nuvo vs WHOOP.

Pricing math without invented discounts

Garmin US suggested retail we could verify from newsroom pages on 24 September 2026: Venu 4 starting at $549.99 (17 September 2025 announcement). Forerunner 570 $549.99 and Forerunner 970 $749.99 (15 May 2025 announcement). fēnix 8 series starts at $999.99 (27 August 2024 announcement). fēnix 8 Pro AMOLED starts at $1,199.99 and MicroLED $1,999.99 (3 September 2025 announcement); inReach service is a separate subscription whose price that release does not print. Garmin Connect’s app download is free. Connect+ was announced at $6.99/month or $69.99/year after a 30-day trial, with existing Connect features remaining free (27 March 2025). The Index S2 page did not show a price in the HTML we fetched. Sale prices, bundles, and regional Connect+ totals can differ — cite checkout.

Nuvo: $4.99/month or $24.99/year ($2.08/month billed annually) after a 7-day trial. No watch is bundled.

Those dollars buy different things. Comparing a Forerunner to a $24.99 app as if they were the same object is a category error. The high-intent case is the person who already owns the Garmin and still wants a daily 21-biomarker biological age. That is the Nuvo add, not a rip-and-replace.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I pick Nuvo or Garmin?
Pick Garmin if you want a GPS watch and Garmin Connect — Fitness Age, Body Battery, Training Readiness, training plans, and maps — on iPhone or Android. Pick Nuvo if you want a daily biological age from 21 biomarkers on iPhone and Apple Watch, optional lab PDF in that same score, on-device AI, no account, and $24.99/year after a 7-day trial. If you already own a Garmin and an iPhone, you can stack: Garmin for the watch, Nuvo for the daily 21-biomarker trend via Apple Health.

Is Garmin Fitness Age the same as biological age?
No. Garmin’s 22 April 2025 post describes Fitness Age as a fitness comparison: classically an interpretation of VO2 max versus age-and-gender norms, and on newer watches activity intensity, resting heart rate, and body fat or BMI. Owner’s manuals match that newer formula. It does not take a lab PDF and it is not Nuvo’s daily 21-biomarker score. Body Battery (energy, 5–100) and Training Readiness (a training-day score) are not ages either.

Can I use Nuvo with a Garmin watch?
Yes, on iPhone. Garmin Connect can push selected data to Apple Health, and Nuvo reads HealthKit. Garmin’s published list covers sleep, heart rate, steps, workouts, weight, body fat, BMI, and related energy and distance types. It does not include Fitness Age, Body Battery, Training Readiness, HRV status, or VO2 max, and it does not write GPS tracks. Nuvo estimates resting heart rate, hides HRV until real HRV exists, and asks you to enter VO2 max from the Garmin app. There is no Nuvo app on the Garmin watch. Android-only Garmin users cannot install Nuvo.

Does Garmin Connect write Body Battery or Fitness Age to Apple Health?
Not on the Apple Health article Garmin published, which we checked 24 September 2026. That page lists active energy, body fat percentage, BMI, flights climbed, heart rate, resting energy, sleep analysis, steps, walking and running distance, water, weight, and workouts. Body Battery, Fitness Age, and Training Readiness are absent. Connect pushes data; it does not pull Apple Watch data back in. The Connect app has to be in the foreground for the sync to finish.

How much do Garmin and Nuvo cost?
Garmin’s newsroom suggested retail, still printed on 24 September 2026, starts at $549.99 for Venu 4 and Forerunner 570, $749.99 for Forerunner 970, $999.99 for fēnix 8, and $1,199.99 / $1,999.99 for fēnix 8 Pro AMOLED / MicroLED. Those are announcement prices, not a live sale. Connect is free to download; optional Connect+ was announced at $6.99/month or $69.99/year. Nuvo is $4.99/month or $24.99/year ($2.08/month billed annually) after a 7-day trial, with no watch required.

Does Nuvo replace a Garmin watch?
No. Nuvo does not do multi-band GPS, maps, Training Readiness, or Body Battery on a Garmin wrist. The Nuvo watch app is Apple Watch only. Use Garmin for the workout. Use Nuvo, on iPhone, if you also want a daily biological age from 21 biomarkers.

Does Nuvo require an account?
No. Nuvo uses on-device private AI and no account. Apple’s privacy label is Data Not Collected; data stays on the phone. Garmin Connect requires a Garmin account. Nuvo uses 21 longevity biomarkers (HealthKit plus optional labs such as HbA1c, fasting glucose, HDL, CRP, creatinine). Garmin Fitness Age is a different measurement.

Is this medical advice?
No. This comparison is educational. Neither Garmin nor Nuvo replaces care, diagnosis, or treatment from a licensed clinician. Garmin’s own releases say several wellness features are not medical devices. Fitness Age, Body Battery, Training Readiness, wearable scores, and lab results should be read with a qualified professional when a decision depends on them.
